# The Fed Hiked Into the Boom and Gerstner Won't YOLO - The AI Capex Tracker - Week of September 18, 2026

> The AI Capex Tracker for the week of September 18, 2026, synthesizing investor podcasts published September 17. This issue covers the Federal Reserve's hawkish surprise hike and Harley Bassman tying rising rates to hyperscaler borrowing, Altimeter's Brad Gerstner declaring no bubble while sizing himself only medium and warning don't YOLO, the memory bulls buying the selloff in Micron, SanDisk and Silicon Motion, a 20-year small-cap manager's capex-up-stock-down bear signal, and the pipeline and turbine bottleneck now gating AI power.

## The AI Capex Tracker

### Week of September 18, 2026: The Fed Hiked Into the Boom and Gerstner Won't YOLO

---

**Issue: Friday, September 18, 2026**

(Covers podcasts published Thursday, September 17. Two things happened at once, and they pull in opposite directions. First, the Federal Reserve delivered a hawkish surprise (it raised interest rates and signaled that another hike is likely before Christmas), which lifts the cost of the borrowed money now funding the AI build. Second, the most-watched bull on the tech-investor circuit, Altimeter's Brad Gerstner, went on All-In, insisted this is "no bubble," and then walked through math that made half the audience nervous: the revenue that has to show up to pay for a $1.5-trillion-a-year building spree needs to roughly quadruple, the country probably can't physically stand up as much computing power next year as forecast, and he himself is only "medium" invested and telling people "don't YOLO." Around those two, the memory bulls came out swinging to buy the week's selloff, a small-cap manager named the single cleanest bear signal of the cycle, and the people who lay natural-gas pipe explained why the power bottleneck just got worse. Nine podcasts dated September 17 cleared the filter.)

## TL;DR

- **The Fed turned hawkish, it hiked and signaled another hike is coming before Christmas, right as the AI build leans harder on borrowed money than ever.** Bond veteran Harley Bassman (inventor of the MOVE volatility index) said the move was about rebuilding trust, not fighting inflation, and named a big reason rates are climbing: hyperscalers are borrowing at "any rate… six, eight, 10, 12, it doesn't matter," now "30%, 35% competition for money" against U.S. Treasury issuance ([Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DU1-d_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE2k-2BeRbTIX0hnx5aqOGHE6a4vxSooMhKBlok9ZN4dzqbdP7MApJndtnUjrj3WK5CqZKJ1mXpH20jkTXzP4OyBVZxqtg41LarqZA7krPDc2gvYW25yggO-2FJbskaP5ulab1A-3D-3D)).

- **A famous bull said "no bubble" and then de-risked in public.** Brad Gerstner (Altimeter) argued Nvidia trades at just "14 times next year's fully taxed GAAP earnings" and semis are "70% of the Nasdaq's return," but that the AI labs' revenue must climb from roughly "$200 billion" run-rate today "to $450 to $800 or a trillion dollars just to keep up" with $1.5T of annual capex, and he's positioned "medium," warning "don't YOLO" ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DvdCg_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE5hz9XJ-2B-2Bz9JqE82thOCUMdy3udTL9bP-2FRj9GZjtmDoFncKP07hrUwp30Wh2vWzKg8A0RKGJLKm3GAsrguQSuGjmLaGMFNIJh1sYjp-2FQFPzCwOKY-2Fs9MYFe9I6xOyvdF-2Fg-3D-3D)).

- **The bulls bought the memory selloff with both hands.** After Monday's "slow down AI" scare crushed memory stocks, analysts called it a gift: Elon Musk reportedly said on the SpaceX call that "memory output is rising 20% a year while demand is rising 200%," Tim Cook called the shortage a "100-year flood," and Micron trades near a 6x forward P/E with a Street price target implying ~70% upside ([The MoneyFlows Show, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgf6i7KKGepAWp9aJVT1y7rN9HVJFpIrapKi2sm8uF0ZbPZJ4Fbhx3RdRZN1NYCETyCqX6oHooB9L3Hoqg1SfgrA4KTDN0y78P-2FMpP4nHyZZg-3D-3DYolp_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE3NWlQhlsz5shvMl8b7VkY8BWcFm8uFWZcqwtx-2Fjr0shRwqH3lEdxvMJIQZ8I5VNya-2BPVdLqobmTnZERYPScoXskTXvTJCtxLW1z4tXhfb43w8jH41t9Xyltt1SXXwgR9w-3D-3D)).

## What's New

A quick word on the window and the order. This is a Friday issue, so it sweeps Thursday's nine podcasts, all dated September 17. The through-line: Monday's "should we slow AI down?" fight (Dario Amodei and others calling for a brake; President Trump phoning into All-In to say "full steam ahead") ran straight into a Fed that chose this week to get tougher on rates. So Thursday's shows were the market's attempt to price both at once, a genuine macro event on top of a genuine growth story. I've ranked by what hits a book hardest: the rate shock first (it re-prices everything), then the marquee bull's own de-risking, then the memory rotation, then the structural sell signal, then the physical power constraint.

**A plain-English key, since these terms recur.** **Capex** is money spent on long-lived assets, data centers, chips, power plants. **Hyperscaler** is a giant cloud owner: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta (Oracle now often lumped in). **Free cash flow** is the cash left after a company pays for its capex. **Offtake revenue** is the money the AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) actually earn, the rent that has to cover the buildings the hyperscalers put up. A **gigawatt (GW)** is a unit of power; roughly the output of one large power plant, and now the standard yardstick for a data-center campus. **HBM** (high-bandwidth memory) is the fast, expensive memory stacked next to AI chips; **DRAM** is ordinary computer memory (HBM is built from it); **NAND/SSD** is the cheaper, mass-produced storage in your laptop. **Hawkish** means leaning toward higher interest rates. **Investment-grade (IG)** debt is bonds from the safest borrowers.

### The Fed picked this week to get tougher, and hyperscaler borrowing is part of the reason rates are rising.

[Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3D54Hm_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE0mmKeHW6nxXrv73q5D45-2FyR6-2B7g2RHSnkna6nmTlF5DW4WhINB-2BL-2BNrixfUuvLhnbqhLtVJddES-2B0AalSAGcaBtiQwIXJvsGnI1SBqz04MlxHEgFdL83C9cvwO984OS1w-3D-3D), Harley Bassman, the fixed-income strategist who invented the MOVE index (the bond market's "fear gauge"), interviewed by Erik Townsend hours after the decision.

This is the item that re-prices the whole complex. The Fed didn't just hike as expected, it went "unexpectedly hawkish with a dot plot saying that's not the last hike in 2026," a signal markets read as another increase likely by December (the Fed skips October, right before the election). Bassman, who'd publicly wanted a bigger "hike 50, one and done" move, made the striking argument that the decision "is not about" the economy at all: "I don't care about the numbers. I care about trust… the Fed needs to go and regain the trust of the market." His read on *why* long rates keep climbing is the part a PM should internalize, because it ties the bond market directly to this newsletter's subject. On slide nine of his deck, he pointed at "massive price-insensitive demand" from the hyperscalers: "these numbers are out of control… we're getting close to 30%, 35% competition for money" between hyperscaler borrowing and U.S. Treasury issuance. And crucially, he thinks the Fed is powerless to stop it: "these guys are going to borrow money at any rate. Six, eight, 10, 12. It doesn't matter. They're in an existential race."

> "I don't think there's a price where they will stop borrowing to go build out their systems." (Harley Bassman, [Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DZ4Os_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE0XdpVcP6yPpR-2FbzZGuAPkQp7YG4DddecBYw7TnmTqZLm9m9jxxgwb8-2FybwZ8mTAncSH7cbYk9ORkn5s9Zg8K7XoEBBmuME-2FSvMYk-2BCD3kIS3UF1Xt9SCndI88pLTjlXgQ-3D-3D))

He was, notably, relaxed about the *credit* even as he worried about the *equity*. Asked whether the record pile of AI-related debt could blow up, Bassman was firm: the hyperscaler bonds are "probably money good… Meta, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle… have plenty of cash flow coming on through to fund the coupon payments and pay these things back over time. It doesn't mean their stock's not going to go down, but I think the bonds are solid." His neat framing on the labs: "Anthropic is not borrowing the money. The other guys are borrowing the money to use Anthropic's products. So can Anthropic go bust? I'm sure. But that's an equity problem, not a bond problem." And he waved off Monday's "slow down AI" drama, Amodei's call, Trump's "full steam ahead" phone-in, as "a political spectacle that's going to pass." His bear tell isn't the debt; it's consolidation. He twice reached for history: the AI buildout is "Global Crossing from 25 years ago, redux" (fiber laid on the assumption of pricing that came in at a tenth), and among "these four, five hyperscalers… one of them is going to win and maybe two, but the rest of them are going to have a problem, because most markets tend toward a monopoly."

Why it matters: a hawkish Fed raises the hurdle rate on every dollar of the debt-funded build, and Bassman's "the Fed can't stop them borrowing" point cuts both ways, bullish for the arms dealers who get paid regardless, bearish for the multiple on anything valued off a discount rate. His "bonds money good, equity not" split is the cleanest way to hold the trade: own the credit and the picks-and-shovels, respect the risk to the equity multiple.

### The most-watched bull said "no bubble," then quietly cut his own risk.

[All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3D01hd_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE1WphFtizxsoovqurFqI7sqdwz4gutWN6O-2FNpsYlPt0TQzKHM7X9isygzAJbluh-2FBWXWVYsLBpItHmEuUksxW-2BPWS9tXTlyrbqbukDjF6yc1KVO3N36NR5siTOzpxo-2FGdQ-3D-3D), Brad Gerstner, founder of Altimeter Capital, giving a "state of the market" talk.

Gerstner is the closest thing this trade has to a head cheerleader, so when *he* starts talking about position sizing, listen. His bull case is genuinely strong and worth carrying: this is "an earnings-driven market," not a 2000-style multiple bubble, the Nasdaq's multiple actually *contracted* this year while earnings rose 26%, and Nvidia trades at "14 times next year's fully taxed GAAP earnings." "Semiconductors are 70% of the Nasdaq's return… the makers of the tokens are making the money, and the buyers of the tokens are basically going along for the ride." He showed a chart where hyperscaler capex maps "almost dollar for dollar" to the free cash flow of the chip companies, which is why "Dell [is] up 5x, [SK] Hynix up 9x in just 18 months." On demand, he's unworried: enterprises have grown their knowledge-work AI spend "about 17x over the last 18 months," Codex users are "up 40x in the last eight months," and you only need "about 4% of [the knowledge-work TAM], or $1.2 trillion," to pay for the capex. "This is not a TAM issue."

Then came the sobering part. To fund "a trillion and a half dollars a year in CapEx, somebody has to pay for it", the hyperscalers are "building it to rent it," so the AI labs' offtake revenue has to show up. His ladder: the top three labs (OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX) are at "about $100 billion" run-rate now; he thinks they "need to collectively get to at least $180 billion by the end of the year… just to keep the AI trade intact," and if the group exits this year near "$200 billion of run-rate revenue," it has "to go from $200 to $450 to $800 or a trillion dollars just to keep up." That's the single number he watches: whether the labs' monthly revenue is "$4 billion or $8 billion." And on the physical side he broke ranks with the bulls' favorite forecast, SemiAnalysis's Dylan Patel projects "43 gigawatts" of new compute next year, but "our total compute in the country is less than 40 gigawatts," and between permitting, grid delays, skilled-labor shortages and the fact that "power equipment is sold out," Gerstner thinks "the total amount we're actually going to stand up is somewhere closer to 25 gigawatts."

> "Everybody knows about AI. It's all priced. Now it's about facts and circumstances. Stay mentally flexible. Follow the facts. Don't YOLO." (Brad Gerstner, [All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DkaoZ_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwEwfNyaeZqV0u6WUzFFYOjZyV2sNTYTQWG8EUwN4GmffrW7Ss7omey19QcIIcxKO3H-2BZRRPuyCUnJutb9YoXHrvKyCwkLCkxSQuaw3fFPcPiz7n1WvuJDI1et4108VFAkaQ-3D-3D))

His three named risks were regulation, power, and, presciently, rates: he put it at "over 90%" that a hike was coming, invoked Buffett's line that "interest rates are to stocks what gravity is to matter," and warned that a 10-year Treasury at 5.5% would be "a big burden on the equity market." His conclusion was the tell: he's running a "medium" position, "mentally flexible," ready to add if lab revenues and oil cooperate, and ready to cut if not. His parting shot at over-leveraged bulls ("don't go 4x like our friend up north who gave all his money to Citadel") is the mood of the whole cycle in one line.

Why it matters: when the trade's loudest optimist reframes 2026 as "everybody knows about AI, it's all priced" and sizes himself "medium," that's a sentiment marker. Nothing he said is a sell, the earnings-driven, cheap-Nvidia case is intact, but he handed the bears their two best facts (offtake revenue must roughly quadruple; next year's compute buildout probably undershoots the forecast by ~40%) and told everyone to stop pressing.

### The memory bulls treated the selloff as a gift, "Wall Street has it dead wrong."

Monday's "slow down AI" headlines hit memory stocks hardest, Micron shed "a quarter of its value", and Thursday's traders lined up to buy the dip. MoneyFlows' Bodner was blunt: the slowdown call "is ultimately a call for regulation, which benefits these massive AI companies. What it's not doing is cutting back the demand for AI." Their physics of the shortage is worth keeping: HBM "accounts for about 30% of global DRAM [capacity] and it only outputs about 13%" of it, "a crunch within a crunch," because the fast memory eats far more factory capacity than it yields, and "it takes three years to make a plant." Their operator color: "Elon Musk on the SpaceX call basically said memory output is rising 20% a year while demand is rising 200%," "Tim Cook described the memory situation as a 100-year flood," and Jensen Huang reportedly walked up to SK Hynix's booth and "signed a wafer that said, please make more."

The names, with numbers: *Micron (MU)* near "$940," a forward P/E "right at six," with consensus EPS climbing "$73… next year $156… $171 in 2028" and a Street target of "$1,575, implying 70% upside." *SanDisk (SNDK)* at a ~7x forward P/E, EPS "$212" in 2027 rising toward "$261," a PEG of "0.42," and a target of "$2,263" (~46% upside). And a smaller pick, *Silicon Motion (SIMO)*, a NAND flash-controller maker, ~$8B cap, that "destroyed earnings" (Q2 revenue $451M vs. $403M expected; Q3 guide $530M vs. $430M), on a "16.6x" forward P/E and a "0.31" PEG. On Schwab, Charles Moon made the same case technically: "AI can't grow without memory," Micron "recovered very quickly," broke "through 975," and could run "as high as 1156" if it clears $1,045; he flagged optics firming on *Ciena's* strong forward guidance, and neocloud names IREN and HUT8, while noting IREN got "dragged" Thursday by *CoreWeave's* at-the-market stock offering "of 35 million shares." On Buy Hold Rant, the hosts made the durability argument: even if new-model *training* slows, "the usage of existing models is growing exponentially," which "also needs GPUs and it also needs memory", so "even if we were to just stop new model development completely today, I don't think we're going to have excess GPUs or memory."

Why it matters: the memory trade is the most crowded, most volatile expression of the AI-capex thesis, and it just took a sentiment hit that the specialists are calling a buying opportunity. The bull math (structurally short supply, single-digit forward multiples, rising estimates) is real; the counter is that a single-digit P/E screams the market doesn't believe the earnings are durable, exactly the "consistency" debate the Buy Hold Rant hosts flagged as the re-rating catalyst. Note too the split inside memory: HBM tightness (MU, SK Hynix) is the well-known trade; NAND/SSD (SNDK, SIMO) is the second leg that gets a boost if last week's DeepSeek "run inference on cheap SSDs" trick proves out.

### The single cleanest bear signal of the cycle, from a 20-year small-cap manager: capex up, stock down.

[Equity Mates, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOj8LUgqyKPHfA5-2By75OCa71vKmYhURDncORdHPRh0vIJbN52OqXXN9z-2FCMhBImCQA4r-2FvUStNiVdlVZSvev5QXMiR3qHY-2F-2BX3bzRFiw7WSQBw-3D-3DucGm_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwExebOTvf2-2BhqJfilxaVtTMC6stZpsgnRe2p7YjBqBZwQNJAyv-2Flo3qol8RzhrM-2Fh6Wy-2FOKu7aZoG9E-2FdPkUFP0r8-2Bj-2FgquE-2BRDp4o-2Ff9wT9JLdBnFtdHGuRj3jy4LGXUbw-3D-3D), Andrew Mitchell, founder and senior PM at Ophir Asset Management (referred to on-air as "Afia"), a global and Australian small/mid-cap fund.

Buried in an Australian small-cap conversation was the tightest one-sentence bear tell of the week. Mitchell described a regime change in how the market treats the AI build: "What used to happen was the hyperscalers in the US would lift their CapEx and the market would reward them and the share price would go up. That reversed. You lift your CapEx, your share price goes down. So there's a big question mark there." He extended it to the whole supply chain, the "electrification… semiconductor… and memory names" reported "some big numbers, but they wouldn't hold on to the share price. You got a rather muted reaction to a really good earnings result." His broader market read is a useful backdrop for anyone running a diversified book: FY26 saw "the greatest dispersion" between best and worst sectors in ASX history, materials up ~50% (gold, copper, a dollar-debasement trade) against software and consumer names "hit for six."

Why it matters: this is the behavioral crack the bears have been waiting to name. For two years, more capex meant a higher stock; the fact that it now often means a *lower* stock is the market quietly repricing the build from "growth investment" to "cash-burn you have to justify." It corroborates the same reversal this letter has flagged on individual prints (Google's capex-raise selloff in July), now stated as a general rule. Watch whether the next hyperscaler capex updates confirm it.

### The power bottleneck got worse in a place nobody was watching: the pipe and the turbines.

The power story has mostly been about generation (gas turbines, off-grid campuses, nuclear PPAs). Andrusak added the layer underneath it: the gas can't move without pipe, and there isn't enough. INGAA's own study finds North America needs "around 54 Bcf a day of additional transmission capacity and about 25,000 miles of new natural gas pipeline by 2050", even under a *low-carbon* scenario. The equipment wall is the tradeable detail: lead times for the compression turbines that push gas through pipelines have stretched to "30 to 42 months versus 12 to 14 months" historically, a direct read-through to the same turbine and heavy-electrical shortages that gate data-center power. She sized the demand: electricity generation "from all energy sources would be expected to grow somewhere between 44 and 55 percent" by 2052 (the EIA's April outlook was even higher, "between 50 and 90 percent"), with data centers a key driver. And she flagged the risk the bulls keep underrating: "there is a growing backlash against data centers… it is a fair question to contemplate whether or not that same demand is going to come to fruition if we don't see the same number of data centers built."

Why it matters: it hardens the physical-constraint thesis that Gerstner leaned on (43GW of compute probably becomes ~25GW). The bullish read-through is the constrained-equipment complex, turbines, compressors, transformers, and the pipeline builders themselves (Williams and peers) that are "being contracted to build more." The bearish read-through is that Andrusak, from inside the industry, is openly questioning whether the demand fully materializes given permitting friction and local backlash, the same headwind that hit off-grid gas in New Mexico and Oregon last week.

## The Debate

Steel-manning both sides of the hyperscaler capex thesis, Gerstner now pegs the annual bill at "a trillion and a half dollars a year," a step up from the "$700B in 2026 heading to $1T in 2027" framing that's anchored this letter (worth flagging: the numbers are creeping up, and the basis differs by speaker). This week the two camps didn't so much argue as split the evidence: the bulls own the earnings, the cheap Nvidia multiple, and the still-vertical demand curves; the bears own the falling stock reactions, the offtake gap, and a Fed that just made the money more expensive.

**Bull: this is an earnings-driven super-cycle, not a 2000-style mania, and demand is still vertical.** Gerstner's core case is the strongest bull artifact of the week: multiple *contraction* alongside 26% earnings growth, Nvidia at "14 times next year's fully taxed GAAP earnings," semis "70% of the Nasdaq's return," and capex mapping "almost dollar for dollar" to chip-company free cash flow ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DStrH_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE6zztsu2ja-2BJ39jG76F-2FXVN2jvT-2BlV3RaBHgRb3yuiAg2c4JlUR8ak6SdsF0y-2Fy-2BTqPLFl53DlxPEp5ditSA0ntbbGvRZ-2BehK-2F0ajbscrP0MbW6WTUioERXuShKpIh2zQg-3D-3D)). Demand isn't the question: enterprise AI spend up "17x" in 18 months, Codex users up "40x" in eight months, and only "4%" of the knowledge-work TAM needed to cover the bill. The memory bulls add the supply-side moat, HBM structurally short, "output rising 20% a year while demand is rising 200%," single-digit forward P/Es on rising estimates ([The MoneyFlows Show, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgf6i7KKGepAWp9aJVT1y7rN9HVJFpIrapKi2sm8uF0ZbPZJ4Fbhx3RdRZN1NYCETyCqX6oHooB9L3Hoqg1SfgrA4KTDN0y78P-2FMpP4nHyZZg-3D-3Dyz1q_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE4Ju5m582-2BWzZ5kKaer8lqYugK04KxU0ZDUDGh8A2W8ZesZJlznKguJkQQQmkAMF-2BtgObu7Eaf6ANUHX-2FIQcBKwVrjT5KnMEi8DDP2Od9LyBmhB0f2RaK-2Fm-2FaCZZhfScOg-3D-3D)), and the usage-not-just-training point: existing-model usage "is growing exponentially," so silicon stays tight even if model development pauses ([Buy Hold Rant, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOjZFj8UVLEWiUX-2FZe9HYmV7-2BdnbJfnAfZ20y94oCqMr1mBi9OJnrqMEg3E6eZfXE5yWXVo8gFf4Ebto7hWA9kGBNgp7shfnGao0MLH6EQqA7g-3D-3DMIe0_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE6Xk9IQ6s7Hv98Uzm-2FXUgIj6tNtTlXgYVCOkMx-2FS0y0RXT-2FQxVci4UeDd86lzMsSU-2F-2BHhhodlR-2Bvuu2CYDjIFkgAjDri8Os6X2kuuJjavg2VWRDrTErtho1ZVjRp2R9AVQ-3D-3D)). **Bear: the money just got more expensive, the offtake gap is enormous, and the market has flipped on capex.** The Fed's hawkish turn raises the hurdle rate on a build that increasingly runs on debt, and Bassman's "30%, 35% competition for money" says hyperscaler borrowing is itself pushing rates up, a self-reinforcing squeeze the Fed "can't stop" ([Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DuFJC_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE93qUmM2lFIFZETrvnxWAIjBT0IFnhnxl-2FZ79xnHsBDg2-2F0H23miY7hl3bjLMzYx0yvRlE4YPmXuECxke6h3Zofhapn2Nzm-2Fc9N90mG4tEzu6Jde3C9rj-2Ftm8ONsIjQ5jw-3D-3D)). Gerstner's own numbers are the bear's gift: offtake revenue must climb "from $200 [billion] to $450 to $800 or a trillion" while next year's compute buildout likely undershoots forecasts by ~40% ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3D5-dm_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE3BqwnSrtRyyzD0MJ7PITmcJhuiMhURVAxrGhlTRfHi0kwDhz58SCtHE1sVOfXv9JPEvFp4T5rGYYSlN42scMH7-2BE-2B11a1l5cKipsIios1Sq71ILZFy11h0WUAefe315xQ-3D-3D)). The behavioral tell is now a rule: "you lift your CapEx, your share price goes down," and AI-adjacent names beat on earnings but "wouldn't hold on to the share price" ([Equity Mates, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOj8LUgqyKPHfA5-2By75OCa71vKmYhURDncORdHPRh0vIJbN52OqXXN9z-2FCMhBImCQA4r-2FvUStNiVdlVZSvev5QXMiR3qHY-2F-2BX3bzRFiw7WSQBw-3D-3DXEkj_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE27vWzXu67O-2FLFznO7KjnPnVrLNFRdczL1NJC1LL9JtRfKkllL8xzGBzo50fAY76H8XMfArz3Cea-2FlO2p3spJeVBzf81tUCe6gGTucljS81t6eSR6fPsxLaDo8j-2FC8rumg-3D-3D)). And the structural risk is Bassman's consolidation call, Global Crossing / Pets.com redux, where of "four, five hyperscalers… one of them is going to win and maybe two, but the rest… are going to have a problem", plus the open-source price threat (China giving near-frontier models away, as Google once did with free software) that could gut the labs' pricing power ([Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DLm3G_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE3su0p3GB-2BI15mvhnvon06DVUodKpQxR8B2bz8p4DEpIDgBj4p5zHu8wjpW7ufoC3ylzYHts2F0nI6bK6-2FUWcBI55gSg3R3vRn98DL5GLWEVqzio-2BDkvLr5N-2F4QUEiDdmg-3D-3D)).

**The synthesis.** Both camps now agree the *suppliers* (Nvidia, the memory makers, the power kit) get paid and the *cash-rich hyperscalers* can service their debt; they diverge on the equity multiple and on which players survive. What's new this week is that the bull's macro tailwind (easy money) just reversed, the Fed is hiking, not cutting, while the bull's loudest voice cut his own position to "medium." The tie-breakers are unchanged and now more urgent: the labs' monthly revenue (is it $4B or $8B?), the path of the 10-year yield, whether the memory selloff was a dip to buy or the start of a de-rate, and whether "capex up = stock down" holds through the next print.

**Sell signals to watch:**
- **The 10-year Treasury toward 5.5%.** Gerstner named it as the level that becomes "a big burden on the equity market"; with the Fed signaling more hikes, this is the fastest way the trade unwinds ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DvAOk_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE8Jh6CBD3p4BQRlDklP5TDZJODeQ23vARZSTlatL8H-2BwmRXBIuJ8rDm1eBO6x4fI2hOZalK3uqDQh3blW84kprZSr20KglET1c1Cn5aHyzc3sT2TpwPX7IoTTs3qNIqtuA-3D-3D); [Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DhD3A_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE1wxeB5ya7a-2FVc-2B5nGW7bUZXcq3Iqou45uH3ffVSPcO4aplzf5AzdAqlJGzUClAQZxunWjuK7-2BKqid0N7opIeJxPmozRpLHNsWKzHWBWnlxmemlI7xbgMfiuxKEQ0J-2FDew-3D-3D)).

## Read-throughs

- **Rates / credit, the biggest change to the whole book.** A hawkish Fed (a hike plus a signaled second before Christmas) raises the hurdle rate on a build that runs increasingly on debt, and Bassman's "30%, 35% competition for money" means the hyperscalers' own borrowing is helping push rates up, a squeeze the Fed "can't stop" ([Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3DJPIc_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE62TJFICw-2F9tLe0LcDAle3GNVz8f2kyHxQGmlsqDD0FWIcuI9cRm1GCwpzRzizEUqrQFHwEdnIpByYpgzJuOCw5v40wAzlpNECLnK2bmpt1yVqu7P48gCMqYjjOIBbvHPQ-3D-3D)). The most actionable posture is his own: own the *credit* (hyperscaler IG bonds are "money good") and the *suppliers*, respect the risk to the *equity multiple*, and put the 10-year yield at the top of the risk dashboard ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DNQfE_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE-2BYPVThUH5ofQgKNQ3hhCzC5QpBbhn-2FD4RCdojFj9D35UN4Zgwl-2BNiEVPXCXJz6Oxa-2FBTmAkBnMDD4kKlHKZId9vOA9z4oa3-2FDMdZ7n3tVodTqEYamUw7cZJUif4eq7bsw-3D-3D)).

- **Memory / networking, the crowded trade got a sentiment shock and a dip-buy call.** The Monday selloff pulled MU down "a quarter" and left it near a 6x forward P/E; the specialists say buy, citing structural HBM shortage ("output +20%/yr vs. demand +200%") and rising estimates ([The MoneyFlows Show, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgf6i7KKGepAWp9aJVT1y7rN9HVJFpIrapKi2sm8uF0ZbPZJ4Fbhx3RdRZN1NYCETyCqX6oHooB9L3Hoqg1SfgrA4KTDN0y78P-2FMpP4nHyZZg-3D-3DR_m8_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE5rLYQDh3or3PJo2ixLVawNPb4YO5iFbUL7Hb3j4sgNXpWwlbt12m-2F4zlpFKIqQRcBQ06Y6eNr0JPBfeM-2FjNYivVrdJzkzQ0gK29DEGtxuf4RDPch7mclQKJ8XZJ2TB-2Fdw-3D-3D)). The cleanest expression pairs the well-known HBM long (MU, SK Hynix) with the second-leg NAND/SSD names (SNDK, SIMO) that also benefit if inference migrates onto cheap storage; on networking, Ciena's guidance keeps the optics complex bid ([Schwab Network, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOhoL0YZhxHJT8-2Bxf5FrsiuMCjYJV8OHDzZxRudo4Br3j2d4FIFF5FMbbndGKJY3KzrA6G7nCEKmh8xAbD6mZ6fPxAnyrUev-2FMVcYkIl1qMdpw-3D-3DXSkJ_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE8sXrLaaEljqcuDuuIZQhPTO3eUy-2BoQzor46HhEFuevdUgAFT5c5dretEuwASj6aMpM6WEmlrY0OKnehu85Gp1i2xGt-2F45BpjqCFVQyx-2FDPCt9R-2BUHIK4kMeHbZZcX7-2F5A-3D-3D)). The risk: a single-digit multiple is the market saying it doesn't trust the earnings' durability.

- **Power / grid, the constraint moved upstream to the pipe and the turbines.** Beyond generation, the gas can't move without 25,000 miles of new pipeline, and compression-turbine lead times have blown out to "30–42 months", the same heavy-equipment shortage that caps data-center power ([NGI's Hub & Flow, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgjURDBZKhlZSk4hCvm35Cxk0QD-2Fh9KTa8cB96ZOMaIRIU0aS3-2FCxYyp1M2r8L62c-2BWfefgo6Ew37D-2BGlfxUa0y18x5XGWGOCFSPEIkAsbpgQ-3D-3D5Dre_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwExxNF1Lzu6G82XeElQPoY9JNHRCcdy5ebvFVspS8-2Bu5CWWz5nuz-2BV-2B2oIiys6csc0Bmg-2BFQ7I8KgtCG2LFE3k37gcy-2Fg84O70qaTTFmVtdl0XymNSXuWKQ8QV0X6LvnkHQ-3D-3D)). Bullish for the constrained-equipment and midstream complex (turbines, compressors, Williams-style pipe); the rising risk, voiced from inside the industry, is that data-center backlash means "that same demand" may not "come to fruition."

- **Neoclouds, the financing model is showing its seams.** CoreWeave's fresh 35M-share ATM offering dragged the whole neocloud group Thursday, a reminder that the spec-build, cash-burn model depends on continuous capital-raising; the analyst's preference for IREN (which monetizes mined bitcoin immediately) over CoreWeave (which must keep issuing stock and bonds to fund "immense cash burn") is the cleanest way to play the theme with less financing risk ([Schwab Network, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOhoL0YZhxHJT8-2Bxf5FrsiuMCjYJV8OHDzZxRudo4Br3j2d4FIFF5FMbbndGKJY3KzrA6G7nCEKmh8xAbD6mZ6fPxAnyrUev-2FMVcYkIl1qMdpw-3D-3DYkSS_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwEyDdMJ3QpcKiWCVvfVJE5Txny2F6v20W6jzQm-2FIIBiLmRHuxsA26nJ-2FcWkQkig8Qx7nMAsvEw360g233m-2ByJmzXfOBrmghGPltGuiuZvKJiCPIEwBIpif0bGfmDTGC2fDg-3D-3D)).

## What Changed vs Last Issue

Last issue (Thursday, Sept 17, "Cash flow is falling. Apollo will fund it anyway.") covered Wednesday's Sept 16 podcasts: Richard Kramer's FT bear framing (Big Tech-plus-Nvidia cash flow "going down this year to $175 billion, but $200 billion of that is Nvidia"); Apollo's Jim Zelter answering "who funds it?" with private capital "calling all precincts" and AI heading to "10% of the IG market"; and the DeepSeek SSD-for-HBM inference trick. This edition covers Thursday's Sept 17 podcasts, and the story moved from "who funds it, and is the cash flow real?" to "the money just got more expensive, and even the bulls are hedging."

- **The macro backdrop flipped from a funding answer to a rate shock.** Last issue's resolution was Apollo saying private capital will fund the build. New this cycle: the Fed hiked and signaled another hike before Christmas, and Bassman tied rising rates directly to hyperscaler borrowing ("30%, 35% competition for money"), the cost of the build just went up ([Macro Voices, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOiTOfldirpnD6cVPyS2LStY6fdpR4iUwPBRzM0P6yUXSM1wuR-2FHEtN6hvnBLBYnwAwaQyA5h-2BjBpT8v7aM3ihP16So-2BSstfSaoOkOIja3YESQ-3D-3Dgb7V_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE2WuqCai2JpxCfav5TsTUajXI1pmHiBLK1Z6jvPvGsBw52n-2BH7Yq7igtpU0R3Y-2Bhua9fYOAOe-2FcTyEPXS1cp1ZAiYYe3xFCYaY0QhPTqQ47j0pF2KAjGjJv1y8LM-2FpW83A-3D-3D)).

- **A marquee bull de-risked in public.** Last issue's bull voice was a credit provider (Apollo). New this cycle: Altimeter's Brad Gerstner, "no bubble," but he sized himself "medium," warned "don't YOLO," and gave the bears their two best facts: offtake revenue must go "$200 → $450 → $800 [billion] or a trillion," and next year's compute buildout likely undershoots the "43 gigawatt" forecast, landing "closer to 25" ([All-In, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgt4KkmeK1UtabljZH67DKHKZmvYcgA7x8JnzDLhmqs4qdBL3fKESd1SaJmpubsL2M-2B8V2hLTESbAXYyrPBYpCdRZxwK8x4nJM-2B7-2FEoYn5vmw-3D-3DYChy_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE9WKuiwRgb6j3BqTxb7APGgSftxH5zSXq6PYohDdER6WA2jQo55yMedU-2Fc4VKy9H-2BJP5k8WU1OCa6qSVSBTEfbknW9-2F0RAaUcg5Fm74nJLzSN-2BCzf-2BNDhgcGMZFrz43asQ-3D-3D)).

- **The bubble number crept up.** Last issue anchored on "$700B in 2026 → $1T in 2027." Gerstner this cycle used "a trillion and a half dollars a year", a higher figure (basis differs by speaker; worth tracking whether the consensus capex number is drifting up).

- **Memory went from a new bear datapoint to a dip-buy call.** Last issue introduced the DeepSeek SSD trick as a threat to HBM. New this cycle: after the Monday selloff, the memory bulls came out to buy, MU near 6x forward P/E, "output +20% vs. demand +200%," "please make more" on the SK Hynix wafer ([The MoneyFlows Show, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgf6i7KKGepAWp9aJVT1y7rN9HVJFpIrapKi2sm8uF0ZbPZJ4Fbhx3RdRZN1NYCETyCqX6oHooB9L3Hoqg1SfgrA4KTDN0y78P-2FMpP4nHyZZg-3D-3D9nnG_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE20DR9eAtg9Fg4jhIdK8gphYRCSKBoIdwmgPLijzktIUq8Ioc2G3slVAoHUbmZULG2fWFCE-2FCeiH9Hpk7yd6t5Gmj3vithDtFzNxDAMg32Qw2ThOOQ9h-2FySkVedyoHVBiw-3D-3D)).

- **The capex-reversal signal got named as a rule.** Not in last issue as a standalone; new this cycle Andrew Mitchell stated it plainly, "you lift your CapEx, your share price goes down" ([Equity Mates, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOj8LUgqyKPHfA5-2By75OCa71vKmYhURDncORdHPRh0vIJbN52OqXXN9z-2FCMhBImCQA4r-2FvUStNiVdlVZSvev5QXMiR3qHY-2F-2BX3bzRFiw7WSQBw-3D-3Dc6QW_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwE0gKWkvJDeDz-2BRAPANL6GGa02HY37QUOt-2BCgwN5I2wGSMjJbCf4zQfkVNmYmB-2BXzJV9fmYmnK7IoPujxtQMFubp4l3xfBSy4PcTeFBE8e-2Bk-2BdWCccaQ-2BO9fUfJ2RO-2BCKZw-3D-3D)).

- **Power moved upstream.** Last issue mapped the off-grid gas *generation* land grab; new this cycle the constraint extends to the *pipe and turbines*, 25,000 miles of pipeline needed by 2050, compression-turbine lead times at 30–42 months ([NGI's Hub & Flow, Sept 17](http://url7324.matterfact.com/ls/click?upn=u001.idHmPrr2Geh7KYLAsTy7NkrIVb-2FgA4pmf2rMXQwGcOgjURDBZKhlZSk4hCvm35Cxk0QD-2Fh9KTa8cB96ZOMaIRIU0aS3-2FCxYyp1M2r8L62c-2BWfefgo6Ew37D-2BGlfxUa0y18x5XGWGOCFSPEIkAsbpgQ-3D-3Dzn80_7mLGwmUci-2BLaXswv9WX1yTgqn3Wad-2FotHhzHgSNAZbVVdyvpwYCn-2BW80adhyoEkIl2qDZJAHYoT1YbYhmIiwEw3FL67vx3Bm4SkyksDvvR2lZTf6NcAbZEJhH0QbVQYh3AjqQheJSkr5JM5sK5jQMkZ4Q1xyNcsfIRGGqKSxJyfCcwn9g030QLv7bzN5aqbKjtW6yr2ImvlfaxluIfsv3Q-3D-3D)).

- **Quiet this cycle:** *AVGO* (no fresh order color; optics rode Ciena's guidance instead); *AMD* (still no company-issued MI450X/Helios catalyst); no new Apollo/Kramer-style single big financing number; nuclear PPAs (Vistra, Constellation, Talen) and ERCOT/SB6 queue numbers quiet; the DeepSeek SSD-for-HBM trick not re-litigated (though the memory bulls implicitly disputed it by staying long).

- **Still open:** whether the 10-year yield climbs toward Gerstner's "5.5%" danger zone; whether the labs' monthly revenue tracks "$4 billion or $8 billion"; whether the memory selloff was a dip or a de-rate; whether "capex up, stock down" holds; and whether data-center backlash starts to shave the power/pipeline demand forecasts.

**Next catalysts to watch:** the *path of the 10-year Treasury* and any Fed speak reinforcing the December-hike signal; the next *OpenAI / Anthropic monthly revenue* reads against Gerstner's offtake ladder; the next *Micron / SK Hynix* prints (do the earnings prove durable enough to close the 6x-P/E credibility gap?); *AI-adjacent IG/HY spreads* as the tell on whether the credit still clears with rates higher; and the next *hyperscaler capex update* as the test of the "capex up, stock down" rule.
