Matterfact News: read-throughs
Your names move on other companies' news. A customer raises its spending plan, a competitor gets caught by new export rules, a supplier sells out. Matterfact reads the news on the competitors, suppliers and customers of every name you cover, judges which stories matter to each one, files each under the channel it travels through, and shows how the stock took it.

What a read-through is
A read-through is a story about one company that matters to another. When a cloud provider raises its plan for GPU capacity, the chip and networking companies that sell to it are exposed to the same demand. When a semiconductor equipment maker warns about new export rules, its competitors face the same rules. Matterfact News finds those stories for the names you cover and labels each one with who it is for and where it came from, for example "Read-through for NVDA · from Oracle, a customer."
- Competitors, suppliers and customers. Every name you follow comes with the companies around it, from Matterfact's map of who sells to whom.
- Eight channels, four grades. Each read-through says how the story reaches your name and how much it matters.
- Refreshed every minute. New stories land while the feed is open, each with the move of the name it is for since the story crossed.
The News page
Your own names, read-throughs from the companies around them, and the macro that hits them, in one feed. Every row says who the story is for and how that name has traded since. Open a story and the reader shows:
- Who it is for. Which of your names the story reaches, and the company and link it came from.
- How it traded. The move of the name the story is for, since the story crossed. It stays live through the session.
- Why it is here. The channel, grade and confidence Matterfact gave this name.
- Ask what it means. One click opens a chat that starts from the story and your name.
Views include all news, read-throughs, analyst actions, macro, peer news and saved stories, plus a list of your names with their moves on the day.
How a story reaches you
Every story is judged against every name it might touch.
- Map who is connected. Each name you follow comes with its competitors, suppliers and customers.
- Judge each story for each name. When one of those companies makes news, Matterfact reads the story with what it knows about the link and your company, and decides whether it matters.
- File it and grade it. A story that matters is filed under the channel it travels through and graded for how much. The rest waits in Peer news, out of your way.
Eight channels
| Channel | How the story reaches your name |
|---|---|
| Demand | Orders, volumes, spending or usage your name also depends on. |
| Supply | Capacity, shortages, input costs or a supplier's output your name relies on. |
| Pricing | Prices, discounts or pricing power in a market your name sells into. |
| Market share | A contract, customer or product won or lost that your name competes for. |
| Customer | A customer's or supplier's capex, budgets, sourcing or inventory that change what it buys from your name or sells to it. |
| Regulation | Rules, policy, tariffs or rulings that also apply to your name. |
| Technology | A shift in technology or products that changes your name's position. |
| Comparable | A deal, valuation or set of results the market will apply to your name. |
A heatmap of read-throughs by channel shows, for the last seven days, where other companies' news reached each of your names and which companies it came from. Any cell narrows the list to those stories.
Four grades
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| Routine | Housekeeping, a single analyst's price target, filings, small contracts. |
| Minor | Company news with little bearing beyond the day. |
| Notable | Results, guidance, a significant deal, or a product or regulatory step. |
| Major | A large surprise, or a change in an industry's outlook. |
The grade measures how much a story matters to investors in the company it is about. "Notable only" keeps Notable and Major. Each read-through also carries Matterfact's confidence in the link: high, medium or low.
The move
Every row carries the move of the name it is for, from the price just before the story to the close of the first session that traded after it. Open the story and both companies start from zero at the moment it crossed, on one-minute prices, so you can see whether the story is already in the price.
- Before the open: measured from the previous close.
- During the session: live, until the close.
- After the close: measured through the next session.
- Read-throughs: your name's move, not the other company's. Market-wide macro shows SPY.
Your day
- Before the open. See what happened since you last looked, and what to tell your PM. A line marks where you stopped reading, and unread headlines are set heavier, like mail.
- During the day. The feed refreshes every minute while it is open and new stories flash once. When one of your names moves 3% or more, Matterfact offers to explain why.
- Ninety days in one list. Older weeks load as you scroll, back 90 days. Search matches headlines, sources, channels, tickers and company names.
- Ask about any story. Every story and every name opens a chat that starts from what you are looking at, for example "What does this mean for NVDA?" or "Brief me on NVDA's news."
Who it is for
Analysts and PMs who cover a list of names and need to know when news on a customer, supplier or competitor moves them, before the open and through the session.
