What Matterfact is

Matterfact is an AI agent platform for institutional investors: hedge funds, private equity, credit funds, venture capital, and equity research teams on both the buy side and the sell side.

It is not a chatbot and it is not a terminal. You describe the work in plain English, and the agent does two jobs that used to belong to two different people. It does the analyst's job, reading filings, transcripts, and vendor data and doing the sector-specific math the way that sector actually does it. It also does the data engineer's job, going out to the open web, extracting structured data from sources nobody has packaged, and landing it in your warehouse on a schedule.

Every number it returns carries the filing, the call, the page, or the vendor field it came from, so the work is checkable.

Matterfact is built by an ex-Millennium quant and ex-Google engineers. It runs single tenant, one isolated deployment per firm.

What it does

Sector-native skills, 5,000+

A skill is the sector logic an analyst carries in their head, written down and made executable. Matterfact ships more than 5,000, covering all 163 GICS level-4 sub-industries across US, UK, and EU companies.

The point is that the correct analysis of a bank is not the correct analysis of a biotech, a REIT, or a semiconductor company. A generic AI tool applies one framework to all of them. A skill encodes the framework the sector actually uses: which metrics matter, how they are defined, what the traps are, and which comparisons are meaningless. McDonald's read as a royalty and real-estate business. Costco read as a membership business with near-zero retail margin. Amazon retail read as an ads cross-subsidy.

Your team can write its own skills, and the agent runs them the same way it runs Matterfact's.

Podcast intelligence, 120M+ episodes

Matterfact indexes the complete full-text transcripts of more than 120 million podcast episodes across roughly 700,000 shows, transcribed in 50+ languages, tagged, and joined to tickers. This is proprietary data no terminal carries.

Podcasts are where CEOs, operators, and fund managers speak at length and with far less compliance filtering than on an earnings call. Monitor the archive for mentions of a name you cover, or pull deep takes from operators and industry experts, each with a timestamped citation.

An agentic web scraper

Most of the data that moves a thesis was never packaged as a dataset. You point the scraper at a market rather than at a URL, and it finds the sources, reads them in any language, and returns a living structured dataset that refreshes on your cadence. Store counts, used-car listings, job postings, pricing changes, clinical-trial enrollment, registration data.

Dashboards on prompt

Describe the analysis in plain English and the dashboard renders: margin bridges, scenario decks, catalyst calendars, peer comps, location heatmaps. Built from the underlying data rather than pasted in, and refreshing as the data does.

Sources you already trust

Native connections to FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, Quartr, MT Newswire, SEC EDGAR, and Outlook. Every answer is grounded in tier-one sources your team already relies on, alongside your own warehouse tables and anything the scraper collects.

Why the output is trustworthy

Measure Value What it means
Correctness score 98.6 Independent benchmark across 10,000 grounded-QA tasks
Citation coverage 100% Every claim traces back to a sourced document, timestamp, or filing
Flagged for review 0.4% Auto-flagged for human review before an analyst sees the answer

Security and deployment

Matterfact runs as a single-tenant deployment: one fund per tenant, with isolated compute, storage, vector indexes, and logs. No shared workspace and no co-mingled embeddings.

  • Default-deny egress. Nothing leaves the environment unless you allow it, and every outbound call is logged.
  • Governed MCP connectors. Tools run inside your tenant, from a reviewed allowlist, with scoped credentials.
  • SOC 2 Type II, independently audited, with third-party penetration testing.
  • SSO and SAML with role-based access control, TLS 1.3 in transit, encrypted at rest, and strict key rotation.
  • Your data never trains anyone else's model.

Deployments run on AWS or Google Cloud, or inside your own VPC or on-premise. Full detail at https://www.matterfact.com/security.

Who uses it

Hedge funds (long/short equity and multi-strategy), private equity, credit funds, venture capital, equity research teams, and quantitative and systematic teams who want machine-readable data rather than a chat interface.

"Matterfact turned our quarterly deep-dive into a weekly discipline. Every claim is traceable, every source is linkable, and our analysts ship conviction in a morning, not a month."

Head of Research, multi-strategy hedge fund

How you reach it

Chat for interactive work. Email a question to ask@matterfact.com and get the work back as a reply. A no-code workflow builder for scheduling recurring work. A REST API and an MCP server, so every answer and dataset is reachable programmatically, including from Claude and ChatGPT. Datasets land in Snowflake, S3, BigQuery, or Databricks.

Frequently asked questions

Is Matterfact a chatbot? No. You can talk to it, but the output is working analysis: models, datasets, dashboards, and memos, each grounded to a source you can open.

Which AI model does it use? Whichever handles the task best. Work is auto-routed across Claude, OpenAI, and Google Gemini, plus fine-tuned small models running inside your own tenant. You are not locked to one model vendor.

Does it replace my data vendors? No, it connects to them. FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, Quartr, MT Newswire, and SEC EDGAR are read alongside your internal warehouse tables.

Is my data used to train models? No. Each firm runs in its own isolated deployment, and your data never trains anyone else's model.

Can it run inside our own cloud? Yes. AWS or Google Cloud, or your own VPC or on-premise.

How is Matterfact priced? Matterfact is an enterprise product, licensed per firm on an annual contract. There is no free tier and no self-serve signup. Pricing depends on the size of the team, the data sources you connect, and which deployment you choose, so it is scoped on a call. Book a demo to get a quote.

What makes the podcast data different? Complete full-text transcripts rather than titles and descriptions, resolved to the companies discussed and joined to tickers, so the audio layer is queryable and citable rather than browsable.
